The St. Patty’s Poker Run Regatta was a great success. The weather was beautiful and the racing close. More sailors should have come out to this unique event. We only had ten boats that took advantage of a fun experience. We had two events in one. The poker game was a fun scavenger hunt where we went to two Spoil Islands on the south of the Causeway, the back side of the Causeway and at the North and South tips of Three Rooker. Ryan placed orange painted posts having a pouch with five different decks of cards around the course. The first one back with a card from each spot was the winner. Since there was no order to the course some found it better to go through the bridge on the Causeway to make it to the north side. Those that choose to go north first did not get the wind advantage and the bridge opening became a great equalizer. Then there was the missing post at one of the Spoil Islands and sometimes we found it was better to land and run to the spot to collect a card rather than sail to the exact spot. Young legs helped. The corrected times show how close it was for a three hour race. See the pictures on the TBCSI site.

The second event was the poker hand where there were four cards on the beach that you used your cards to make the best poker hand from. Tom Hirst won the Beer. The trophies for time were nice plates with cool design.

Don’t miss the Macho races coming up.
